Question by Smile For the Camera: Can anyone recommend the best photo editing software?
I’m looking for the best free photo editing software and I need a recommendation. I use picnik and photobucket every now and then, but I’m looking for something I can add to my laptop and use without being connected to the internet. Any suggestions?

The best photo “editing” programs are Photo Mechanic and Adobe Lightroom.
That aside, my guess when you say “edit” you do not mean it in the classic sense, sorting the best from the rest.
If you are looking for the best retouching and post production software, that would be Adobe Phototshop CS5.
If you are a student, you can buy PS CS5 for under 0 in your student store

Irfanview is a free download, pretty easy to use. Gimp is also free and it approaches Photoshop.
The GIMP is the best free photo editing program out there.
Picassa and Paint.net are okay for small things.

She asked for FREE software. Not student pricing.
Gimp is often recommended.
