I rebuild slightly older Dell ultraportable laptops so that they can compete with the latest Dell has to offer as far as speed goes. Compare it to your own system and then buy one for very little money. tiny.cc
@fmen2007 Try a lite version of windows 7 next time.
hell, you want tech support,,,call India. the video was made to sell the laptop on ebay, not to teach you how to make your computer faster.
Use a lite version of xp, Avoid memory hog applications. Keep it simple.
Please tell us what u did to get it to boot and shutdown fast I have a dell inspiron 8500 and i wanna do that with both my computers
If you still need help installing add me.
This demonstration is impressive, i also have latitude L400 but i have problem installing OS on it, i have no CD drive, no Floppy, i have network, and i tried to boot up from network, using free TFTP server on other machine, but i needs some mba.img file, that is closet i get till now. Do you have any advice which is helpful?
where can i get a 256mb memory module for my Latitude L400? And where can i get a decent & affordable Solid State drive for this computer? a battery aswell. I have this computer but the battery is bad so i cant be mobile. respond when you have time. thanks
Hell. This guy, after all 4 minutes, never mentioned what he did. What a waste of time.
just under 46 seconds.
especially the Tualatin core, all of the core 2 duo and the pentium M are based on this core instead of the Netburst archetechture that the Pentium 4′s had.
The laptop uses a Pentium 3E. IMHO P3′s were the best processors ever! Apart from the Processor Serial Number ID. They had a good balance of Processing Power to TDP
Goood performance, but i dont like the look of the laptop
u need to start selling theses again!
nice! Howd u get it so fast?
Ive ben looking to tweak my dell latitude C610 but im not sure if theres a limit. I want to install like 3gb of ram and new video cards is it possible?
Try Ubuntu 8.10
Yes, I have two that are in really good shape.
email me at (fmen @ spoofee . com) without the spaces.
hey are you selling any Dell latitude L400′s?
Correct. (By maximum I hope you mean around 2 GB).
But, like I said before, this is only one maneuver in speeding up XP. You may or may not notice any improvement with this alone.
Removing “eye candy” will help increase speed also.
Right click My Computer—properties—advanced—performance settings—adjust for best performance.
Good luck
i set the page filing to none on my drive C. and i set my page filing to the maximum on drive D. is that the way i was supposed to do it? (in reference to making my machine run faster). tell me what works best.
what does, “putting page file on drive D,” mean? i just formatted my drive D. so if you have time to explain i would really appreciate it. thanks
ps: this is my very 1st computer so im new to all this terminology.
Partition Magic is what I use to partition the hard drive. You may need an external CDROM or not for this.
Good luck.
how do i partition the hardd rive? as you speak of in this video, i dont know what that means. i just got the same computer from my landlord. and im eager to have mine run as quickly as yours does, please help
hey i just got a dell lattitude l400, and i want to make it as fast as yours, so could you explain to me in detail how i could do that. thank you so much. what kind of modifications do i need to do. how do i partition the hard drive? as you mention in this video.
can you give instructions like step-by-step this is hard for me to follow
and I was just wondering if it is hard to put in more RAM and if you can put a newer processor in (maybe an atom)

@ilovemaryam08 I also have an L400, with 256MB ram and a budget SSD. Have you tried Ebay? They should have 256 MB modules (144 pin SODIMM at 100MHz). I have a budget SSD by combining a Compact Flash (CF) camera card with an adapter to mini-IDE. Not the fastest performance but its a lot cheaper! Good luck
