How To Use Command Prompt?

Article by chris cornell

Graphical user interface otherwise called as GUI is used widely by many people in the Microsoft operating system but some people find command prompt to be more efficient in conducting network and file managing. New users may find it difficult to learn the syntax to manipulate files and folders in command prompt but once they get used to it they save a lot of time. Command prompt being a very different thing can confuse the new users but their confusion will be reduced if they think the interface to be a means to interact with the files that are stored in the computer.

This also allows it users to access the files, folders and all the other information which can be found in IE under the details view. Once the new users are used to the command it takes them lesser time than mouse clicks to manipulate the files and folders in it.

This interpreter can be opened in all the versions of windows but each OS has different methods to do so. Though the commands used are the same in all the OS but the initial steps are different. To open command prompt go to start menu for windows XP, vista and 7. In windows vista and 7 type ‘cmd’ or ‘command’ in the search for text box and press enter. In windows XP open run and type ‘cmd’ and press OK.

To navigate in this program enter ‘dir’ and press the ‘enter’ key, this action displays all the contents of the current folder. If there are many files which does not fit into the screen then it will scroll off to the top. Press ‘dir/p’ to pause the display. The wildcard operator ‘*’ can also be used to list out certain files and folders. The other commands are, to change folder locations ‘cd youFolderHere’. To go to another drive type the drive letter and press enter. After doing all the operations if you want to leave command prompt type ‘exit’ and press enter or just click the close button icon on the right hand upper corner to close it.

This is a simple procedure to use it precisely.

We use Code::Blocks once again as an editor of text of the source code so that we add an if clause and experiment with the execution flow, depending on what value the if expression evaluates to. If it is false(0), the execution of the if body is ignored, if it is true(1), the execution of the body is done. We deal with some error messages from GCC(command line)as well, since it indicates(using source code file line number for pinpointing) what could be wrong syntactically in the source code.
