After enjoying Cali’s delights the night before it all just felt a bit too early, but we made it to the bus on time. The journey was of course like being in a fridge. They seem to really get as much use out of their air conditioning as possible. We actually had condensation on the outside of the windows of the bus because it was so cold. It was rather like sitting inside a beer glass on a hot day. Mountains and valleys of lush tropical forest passed us by, but we were turning into ice cubes. I now know to travel as if I am back trekking in Patagonia in order to be comfortable on the buses. Of course getting off them is like stepping into an oven. The trip did not take the whole day and we arrived in Medellin in daylight which was a relief given its reputation. It took about five minutes of emphatic discussion with the taxi drivers to get them to understand just where our hostel, Tigers’ Paw, was located and then a further five to negotiate the price. The hostel turned out to be a great find with a pool table, a big television and dvds too. We seem to be having a good run of luck with the accommodation at the moment. I wonder how long it will last? We grabbed a very cheap dinner locally of incredibly tasty and very unhealthy hot dogs …
