Thats kool, this might be a good discussion for people who dont have a smart phone yet.. like me.. Having now played with loads and loads of iphones and HTC phones im thinking HTC. I cant say the iphone is way better.. it might be a little better for what you use it for but its not hands down amazing over the HTC.. The HTC is alot more flexible in alot of areas, such as customization and so on. plus i dont have to get ripped off by apples over pricing or use itunes which is just awful…

As of 17 March 2009, there were about 2,300 applications… By December 2009, there were over 20,000 applications available in the android market, i don’t know how many there is now, but it grows amazingly fast. Notice the dates and imagine yourself how fast it grows

I have a HTC Hero, and i have had my hands on both Iphone 3g and 3gs, and i have to say i would prefer HTC Hero anytime. I think the reason the touch screen lags for you is because you have no removed the screen protecting plastic, i had the same problem till i removed it. And for the Htc Hero (android) there is coming out new updates to the OS every now and then + the android market is growing larger than App store. (of course currently the app store has more apps than android market)
