@inzMBL The laptop has died, we are recovering data from the hard drive which is not dead.

Some would say that a hard drive being installed in dead PC is an issue :)

Roger.

inzMBL

It’s not a recovery – it’s just a backup.

Recovery is when the drive accually dies or has any issues at all.

Regards.

@mjy1609 The few I have seen slide off; grasp firmly and “wiggle” evenly. Don’t force it, though, just in case we’re wrong – don’t want to break anything.

mjy1609

@FreeCompConsultant Thank you for your reply. Yes the flat pins do stick out of the hardrive. Any advice on removing the adapter so I can access the 39/40 pins?

FreeCompConsultant

@mjy1609 If the pins stick out from the end of the drive, there is likely an adapter on it. If it’s not IDE and it’s not SATA, then it’s an adapter.

mjy1609

When I take my hard drive out, instead of the pins which I see in this video, I see 12 flat “pins”? Is there a built in adapter installed?

@arif019 “My laptop’s screen got fried.”

How about plugging in an external monitor? Most Lap Tops come with that feature available.

How about when the MBR was wiped out?

i have one laptop, that i use for work / school and so on (no games movies music or anythin from tha sort of thing ) i have it for 2 years now, and i got 4 dead hard drives with all my data in it, when i went to a shop they fixed it by changing the hard drive, they say that its imposible to take data out of those that brake down, im using the 5th hard drive now, if this one goin to brake, im goin to burn the laptop, goin to enjoyin it by doin so aswell, alot, u gotta love SONY

BIGC3002

@FreeCompConsultant Alright, thanks for the reply!

FreeCompConsultant

@BIGC3002 No, I’m afraid I’ve never had a chance to look into that. You may try “ultimate boot cd” to see if that recognizes it.

BIGC3002

Do you know how i can recover data from my dead PS3′s HDD? I put it in an enclosure but that didn’t allow me to access the data because my computer didn’t notice it

arif019

My laptop’s screen got fried. So can i plug my laptop’s hard drive onto a desktop? Do i need any external cable if i want to permanently hook it up to a desktop?

FreeCompConsultant

@MrCodyy15 Permanently?, if it’s a SATA hard drive, just hook it up – may need an adapter to bolt it in.

If it’s IDE (older drive) you will need an adapter

MrCodyy15

is there anyway i could jus install a laptop hard drive to a desktop?

FreeCompConsultant

@pepperpie88 I would say – no, not by itself. The recovery disk probably reformatted your hard drive. There are some unformat utilities that may help you, and for some of those, this adapter may make it more convenient to recover the data.

pepperpie88

grrrr… wish i saw this video before i put the recovery disc… i wonder if this method can recover files after i used the recovery disc given to me when i bought the laptop?

SummerCicadaMusic

@FreeCompConsultant I tried it with a Mac computer too and nothing happened :(

FreeCompConsultant

@SummerCicadaMusic Could still work; a Windows PC won’t recognize a Mac hard drive, but there are utility CD’s you can boot from that will. Don’t give up yet.

SummerCicadaMusic

@FreeCompConsultant Oh darn. I already have one of those USB adapters. It didn’t work. Like, the computers that I tried hooking it up to didn’t seem to recognize it. They got kinda “slow”, like took forever for Maybe there’s something seriously wrong that only a professional can fix. :(

FreeCompConsultant

@SummerCicadaMusic Spinning without making a nasty noise is a good thing, so there is certainly a decent chance it’s OK. Unless you have other reason to believe it’s “bad” my guess is that data recovery is possible. Using the USB adapter (link in the description) you don’t have to worry about master/slave configuration.

SummerCicadaMusic

@FreeCompConsultant thx for replying. It’s a Mac hard drive actually, and when I try to hook it up to another computer, I can hear the disc spinning inside. Does that mean the drive works and I can get the data from it if I figure out how to hook it up properly?

Sorry if that’s a stupid question, I don’t know much about computers. But I do hear the disc spinning in there…so I’m hoping maybe that means the data on the disc is still ok….

FreeCompConsultant

@SummerCicadaMusic If the hard drive is fried, no. If the computer is junk, probably yes. If just “Windows” is fried, then yes. The drive has to be in working order.

SummerCicadaMusic

Will this work with any fried hard drive?? My hard drive got fried and there’s important stuff on it! I got one of those adapter things in the video and tried hooking it up to another computer, but nothing came up…so…I just figured I’d have to cough up like $700+ to have the data recovered professionally…. BUT maybe I didn’t configure it right? Like I dunno how to enable slave cables or w/e you said there…. If I do that, will it work??

FreeCompConsultant

@MrJordiR google the term acer aspire 1510 service manual or similar. Should find a pdf manual or service page.

I think if a laptop goes bad then that is the end of everthing.Because with data recovery, deals with damaged hard drives. My laptop crashed weeks ago and i nearly fainted because i had lost everything and when i went to an expert i was told i could not get back my data and instead said that i need a new laptop. This was too terrible and since then till now i never forget to make regular backups. And am glad i use an online backup solution called Safecopy backup. So guys always have alternative backups.

It's not so much that he's dead, it's that he isn't in charge anymore. And that, you have to admit, is a huge step in the right direction. I'm sure there are a lot of folks that think if Dubya wasn't in charge anymore that would be a step in the right direction.
The difference is, we take power away by votes here, but in Iraq, you got to use a thousand pounds of bombs
