and they’re really not giving me good reasons to do so. I want to know what makes it so much better, and why i should care about downloading it.

You should just chat with your friends on Facebook. They have an instant messenger. If they are on Facebook at the same time that you are you can chat with them. At the bottom of your profile page you can see who on your friends list is on at the same time and you can message them.
You also could download AIM. This use to be pretty popular and your friends might already have a s/n for it.
Lastly, if you have unlimited texting you can text between them as well.

I have downloaded it and use it for somedays,the biggest different is that 2011 has a big UI.very friendly,easy to use you can see your friends’ posts and post what you want to say at the left side,your friend list is at the right side.
Worth to download.I like new things.
