Altough I was planning on doing this anyway, requested by damngodsonic and Warhawk717. … Jesus this game is hard. Sorry Jesus, it is! It suffers the same problem that Shadow the Hedgehog and Sonic Heroes does – obnoxious level design thats out to get you. In those games, it’s masses of pits and unwieldy collision detection – in this one… it’s… just mean as hell. The bosses aren’t exactly pushovers either, you have a very limited time window to hit most of these. Why did I do the Game Gear version as opposed to the Master System version? I prefer the boss music… that and it makes the bosses harder, unlike Sonic 1. There are three points in this game where you will lose lives like sand falling out of a bag with holes in: Green Hills Act 3 – thanks to many blind jumps via springs. Scrambled Egg Act 2 – because it’s simply out to get you via instant death traps and “oh no I pressed the wrong direction at the wrong milisecond so I died” segments And the Final Boss -I take back what I said about the Sonic 1 8Bit final – this one’s far harder! Fortunately the game is very generous on lives, I got 7 in Green Hills Act 1 alone. Despite the number of lives I lost, I stay above nine because it simply gives you so many lives! Cheers to GHZ for the boss names, and big thanks to purple_manners for the Emerald Locations. Crazy game.

What the fuck? silver sonic? it’s the old metal sonic

UndefeatableTwilight

@zelgreywards That’s true, though the Time Stones method is arguably easier (since you don’t have to search high and low for the machines in every stage if you go by that method).

RightWingGeek

I love how Robotnik saves you from falling to your death and then is so kind to kill his invincible first boss for you… granted dodging those balls he drops is a bitch

zelgreywards

@UndefeatableTwilight You can get the good ending in Sonic CD without even entering a special stage as long as you destroy the weird robot conversion machine in the “Past” of every non-boss stage. That has the effect of automatically making a good future for the boss levels.

I got the good ending after only collecting five Time Stones that way.

I always LOVED the Green Hill music in this game, and when I found out that the Japanese version of Sonic CD had a soundtrack largely based on that theme (its intro, title theme, speed shoes, etc) I was totally delighted!

Fantastic boss run! This was always the single hardest game in the Sonic series for me.

TheDoomPig

Way I look at it is, the levels in Sonic have always been harder than the bosses.

Gotmilk0112

The bosses in this game were so fucking hard. Even moreso because you had no rings.

sayastra

i like the fact that the bosses in this game are some master robot eggman built instead of eggman himself (feels much less redundant)

Garhunt05

I never made it past the first boss in this game

dno101

I LOVE the boss music!!!

gamegod9000

Tails when he is picked up at the beginning, looks like Tails doll…

garettd

why does eggman save sonic on the first boss

UndefeatableTwilight

@ACESpark I think he fights Tails in Sonic Battle a few times, as a sparring match. He also can fight Tails in Sonic the Fighters (also known as Sonic Championship).

sonicgreg

Now I gotta dig out sonic 2 and give the first boss another try!

madman358444

god like even the final boss is easier than the first…

RivalTheDragon

I’m still puzzled about why Robotnik saves you from dropping in the lava……o_o

@marioworld882 whats the name of it?

raakone

@reniisgod The idea methinks is that they’re super-robots. This was the first game where they had an idea that maybe Robotnik would create super-robots, rather than always taking on Sonic directly. This was the first game to do this (later Gamegear games, as well as the Act-1 boss in Sonic 3/Sonic and Knuckles, follow this pattern)

raakone

@bamige1 Koo-koo-kachoo!

raakone

@GoldKnightProduction I know. Kind of doesn’t make sense. Either it’s a case of Sonic remembering being in those places before with Tails, or….they were GOING to have Tails in this game as well, but last-minute constraints, or difficulties programming his abilities, or the moon not being in the seventh house….this game came out the way it did!

flashfire505

OH NOES METAL SONIC IN DUCK FORM!!!!

snailsonic

@ACESpark what about sonic the fighters

blakehascake6645

this game is terrible

holmboy91

man that first boss was trippin tried up to five times to kill em. This game sure dont like to give you rings when fighting these bosses!!

Farstarlover

@IronKingLeo AHAHAHAHA! LOL…

Yeah, I’ve played this one way back when I used to had a game gear. That first boss was really tough, but it took quite some time to learn the idea and then I was able to get through the game without any problems.

But then again, I never got all the chaos emerals to get to the last stage.

Wanna say something?
