I have never been much of a shoot ‘em up fan, but that changed recently, starting with Natsume’s DEAD MOON for the TurboGrafx-16. Expect to see plenty more shoot ‘em up reviews in the future. WATCH THE VIDEO IN HIGH QUALITY!!! YIKES

The Turbo Grafix actually was a super 8-bit machine. However the graphics on the console were far superior to genesis and rivaled if not beat the SNES because of it’s capabilities of having multiple layers of parallax scrolling with absolutely no slowdown. The Turbo’s sound however was completely 8-bit, so SNES crushed it there. The Turbo is still the king of the shmup genre hands down. The VC hasn’t even scratched the surface on the Turbo’s shooter library. I recommend the emulator Ootake.

People just don’t have the time to sit and play games for hours every day when they get older. Especially when they have a family. People don’t lose their response time or coordination that fast from natural causes, it’s their lifestyle that changes and games become less important. That’s why major league pitchers can still throw strikes despite being 25+.

I don’t think your skills get worse with age, it’s the games that are getting too easy, I mean i remember the days when games were hard and it could take months on easy, nowerdays blind monkeys can finish halo 3 on hard, let alone easy, fact is when your conditioned for cushy games, over time your skills will dull, so when real games like megaman 9 come out, your gonna feel the burn as your old skool skills pick up again

lee u should download Ikaruga. the best shoot em up available n its frikken hard. only 400mp this week!

I’m 22 nearly 23 and I’m slowing down in my old age, my games of choice lately are like turned based rpgs set to like the wait option haha. Or games i have memorized like OoT

Oh… GOD!

I wonder if there is a way to improve or preserve that precious response time and hand-eye co-ordination as you get older. You know gaming is testing the limit of human performance if by only thirty years old you it is almost beyond your limits yet at 10 you did fine.

Then again, 4 hours to beat Mega Man 9, even if you die a lot… that is still really good.

redknight42

They do deteriorate. I am 31 and when I was 7-10 years old I could beat almost any NES game without much trouble. I just downloaded mega man 9 and it took me 4 hours game time of dying and dying again before I could finally beat it, lol.

Treblaine

Lee, you can’t be any more than 25, do your gamer skillz deteriorate that much by then!?!
:(

To think I wasted youth on stuff like reading, I can read when I’m 80! Here’s hoping the future gives us cybernetic upgrades for fast reaction times. Either that or RTS for teh old folk.

raked?

excellent… your not really into vert or hori shooters so you pick one of the most lack luster ones to get for your Wii… ummm, oooooooooookkkkkkkkk

Nice. If I could use my bro’s virtual console, I’d probably buy this game

“wasn’t the turbo grafx the first system to have a memory card?”

If I remember, it was worse. You had to buy a special peripheral to save games, so most TG16/PC Engine RPGs had a (LOOOONG) password option. I believe the Duo finally added some sort of built-in memory, but that was also not without its flaws. Then again, battery backups on the other consoles sucked too.

You may be confusing the game software with memory cards, as the games themselves were cards, and were tiny for the time.

jwpratt

5 stars for the gamera ending

cheeseareme

“profesionals” lol. lee, your the pro here.

RetroGameRoom

multi layered scrolling is called paralax scrolling, if you need to say it in a future review

AlucardsQuest

This game is good, but I prefer vertical shooters, that said you may want to look into the Star Soldier series. Not the first NES game, but the Turbo games. Those games have awesome music and power-ups almost as cool as Raiden. The downside is that they can get hard if you get esplode! lol

essej

This game looks aight
