In the recent days, Skype which is computer software became very popular among people of different ages to use for voice calls. Skype basically is a phoning software people use for making voice calls over internet. Some people use Skype instead of their landlines to make their calls. People also who have Skype accounts can call each other and handle phone calls. Price for calls through Skype is cheaper than regular calls or land lines. On August 16^th and 17^th 2007 Skype was down for some reasons and millions of users worldwide were not able to use it. An explanation of the problem and a trial for analysis is in what follows.

Computer users worldwide use Windows as their operating system more commonly than any other operating system. Having this in mind, most Skype users are using Microsoft windows as their operating system. So there is an intimate relation between the computer program Skype and the operating system on which it is working- Microsoft windows.  On that two days Skype was shut down a security release or one call it a security bug fix was released by Microsoft and millions of users worldwide received this update installed it and restarted their computers. These huge restart processes among millions of users suddenly cause the servers of Skype to halt and more probably to crash.

Some officials from the Skype Company have referred to the problem as a deficient algorithm – which is a technique in computer programming- that lead to the problem. The company made analysis and tried to work on the error and fix the algorithms which are responsible for connecting the client server to the person trying to connect with Skype software.

The more probable reason for the shutdown is that recently more users are login into Skype and using up the available bandwidth which may have led to the problem of crashing the system of Skype due to huge number of users.

Skype program is incredibly popular now with over 600 million users; Skype program needs a huge internet bandwidth to support this huge number of uses. The expected active-users on a daily presence can 40 million users at the same time.

Now after Skype recovered from the big crash on 2007, Skype is ready to handle more users and to bear the responsibility to connect several users worldwide but problems always happen especially with this vast growing number of users. Skype Company has to take into account the possibility for a major crash down and try to avoid it and bear in mind that this service is becoming part of most people’s daily routine.
