If you are a Windows user, you will most likely find the bundled image viewing application quite inadequate and slow. You are likely to a have a collection of digital photos, and if you have little need for retouching them, a simple image viewer like Irfan View is bound to fit in adequately.

Irfan View is free for personal uses, and is a small and light application which loads images very fast, and allows you to browse through your images with ease. It is a small download of a mere 1.5MB and supports an incredible number of file types out of the box. Using a free plugins pack which is also available at the IrfanView website, you can easily add support for more file types and features.

IrfanView loads even large images almost instantaneously, making browsing your image collection a smooth and fast experience. Once an image in a folder is opened, you can very easily browse to the next and previous image by simply using the right and left buttons. An inbuilt thumbnail browser is available to make it easier to browse through your image collection.

This small utility comes filled with small useful features which you are bound to require if you deal with images frequently, such as capturing images from a webcam or scanner, setting images as a wallpaper, cropping and resizing images. Even complicated operations such are renaming and resizing / processing a large number of images is a fairly easy task with IrfanView.

Even if you have a full features image editor installed, you will find that IrfanView is an indispensable tool. While many of the expensive image management software might have more features, few beat IrfanView in their ease of use and speed.
