Dell no one can argue the contrary is one of the most recognizable brand on the market. Like it or not they are pretty much a household name when it comes to laptops and desktop computers. This has a lot to do with the heavy advertising the brand is doing but also with the great quality of their product, Dell computers being some of the most dependable around.

A great example of this is the Dell Inspiron 6000 laptop. Of course it’s a few years old now and not competitive anymore but it exemplifies the quality of Dell laptops so I will use it as an example. Many people are still using them to this day. It is a notebook that packed a nice punch when it first came out, featuring what is called the Sonoma chipset which was the latest Intel processor at that time. The sonoma chipset was designed just for laptops. This particular laptop also had great battery life, decent multimedia capabilities and wireless connectivity, which is a given today but still pretty new at the time.

Dell laptops are always well equipped to ensure seamless operation. Dell also proposes a long list of options to customize your notebook any way you want. Internal wireless internet card comes as standard nowadays so every laptop you buy can ceonnect to the internet anywhere there is a wifi hotspot.

Other connectivity features of these Dell laptops include are a IEEE 1394 port, a Firewire port, an S-Video port and usually four USB ports. Some laptops also feature a slot for Secure Digital Memory cards.

This increased connectivity means that your laptop can now be hooked up to a wide variety of peripherals, and sometimes wirelessly, from PDAs to printers to a host of other devices. Of course, today most accessories connect to your laptop in a plug and play fashion with nothing to install.

Going back to the Dell inspiron 6000 computer, it came with either a 1.30 GHz Intel Celeron processor or a 1.60 GHz Pentium processor, similarly for the hard drive you had the choice between 30 GB to 80 GB. This exemplifies the flexibility you have when ordering a Dell laptop. You usually have the choice between two or three processors, different hard drive sizes, different RAM memory sizes, etc. This ensures that the notebook is tailored to your needs and budget and thinking about it, this may be why Dell is such a giant force in the business.

Finally, some good news, now I can only wait for the darn thing to arrive and then I shall say goodbye to Deimos forever and I shall call the new one Deimos MK2 and hope that that one is better…

Or, do as I do: sell it off as fast as you can and go for a notebook from a different manufacturer.

Look for one with a Core 2 Duo: it beats every processor on the market hands down, with better performance per watt than even the normal bog-standard Centrino's. (Pentium M's).

My VAIO has a Core Duo (Yonah, itself being derived from the Pentium M architecture). Its only disadvantages are that it lacks 64-bit support and a couple of design faults it has inherited from the Pentium M. The Core 2 Duo suffers from none of the aforementioned problems.

Seriously, why continue flogging a dead horse?

Wanna say something?
